EllieMD is a telehealth platform that provides personalized, prescription-based programs designed to support weight management, metabolic health, and longevity. Getting started is simple. You’ll begin by completing a secure online medical intake form that provides the provider with details about your health history, medications, and goals.

Once submitted, a state-licensed MD or DO will review your intake and determine the most appropriate treatment plan for you. Depending on your state, your consultation may occur via secure messaging or a video visit. After approval, your customized medication is prescribed and shipped directly from a licensed 503A compounding pharmacy to your doorstep.

You’ll then gain access to ongoing provider messaging, community support, and educational resources designed to help you succeed.

EllieMD currently serves patients across most U.S. states, including the District of Columbia, through its licensed provider network. Compounded GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP medications are available to medically eligible patients in states where our partner pharmacies and telehealth services are authorized to operate. Availability may vary based on local telehealth laws and pharmacy licensing requirements. Patients must be physically located in an eligible state at the time of their consultation. EllieMD is not yet available in Puerto Rico or other U.S. territories.

To qualify, patients must be at least 18 years old, reside in or be physically present in an eligible state, and meet clinical requirements for treatment. EllieMD prescribes these medications for adults with a BMI of 25 or higher. Patients transferring from another weight-loss prescription program, even from a different telehealth platform or physician, may qualify with a BMI of 22 or higher.

Per FDA guidance, GLP-1-based medications are generally approved for adults with a BMI over 30, or over 27 with a qualifying health condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. Patients who are pregnant, nursing, or have certain conditions (such as pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, or thyroid cancer) may not be eligible. The provider will determine eligibility during your consultation.

Weight loss varies by individual. Some patients begin noticing changes within the first few weeks, while others may take a month or more. Staying consistent and following the provider’s dosing plan is key. A safe and steady rate of loss is typically 1–2 pounds per week (6–8 pounds per month), though results depend on factors like adherence, activity level, and metabolism.

During the first 12 weeks, most patients start at a low dose that gradually increases as the body adjusts. It is normal not to see weight loss immediately since many patients spend the first few weeks allowing their body to adapt to the medication. During this period, you may notice a reduced appetite, smaller portions, and better control over cravings. Some mild side effects such as nausea or bloating can occur but usually improve with time.

Beyond the first 12 weeks, EllieMD provides a check-in and reassessment every 3 months to evaluate your progress and determine if any adjustments are needed. The goal of treatment is not to continually increase the dose but to find your personal “sweet spot,” the dose where you feel your best and achieve steady, sustainable results. Each reassessment helps the provider fine-tune your next 3-month protocol to keep your plan safe, effective, and personalized.

Individual results will vary as no two patients are the same. Some may notice changes sooner than others depending on metabolism, lifestyle, and medical history. What is most important is staying consistent and following the protocol assigned by the provider since steady adherence leads to the best long-term outcomes..

Common side effects may include mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation, which typically improve as your body adjusts to the medication. These effects are generally temporary and can often be managed with hydration, smaller meals, and consistency.

In rare cases, more serious reactions such as pancreatitis or kidney problems can occur. If you experience severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, signs of an allergic reaction, or anything that feels unusual, contact your primary care physician first, as they have your full medical history and can provide appropriate guidance. After doing so, update the Telehealth prescribing provider so that everyone involved in your care is informed.

If you ever experience a severe or urgent medical emergency, such as difficulty breathing or intense pain, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. While these reactions are uncommon, it’s always best to prioritize your safety and ensure all providers are kept in the loop.

The medication should be refrigerated immediately after arrival to maintain quality. Some shipments include a cold pack, while others may not — both are safe. The medication remains stable at room temperature (up to 86°F) for up to 56 days, but refrigeration is recommended. Keep vials out of sunlight and away from children.

Certain formulations may include optional additives, such as Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin), which can naturally tint the solution a pinkish hue. This occurs because Vitamin B12 contains cobalt, which turns pink when mixed with water. The color variation does not impact potency, purity, or effectiveness. Each batch is tested for purity, potency, and sterility before shipping.

By providing a 3-month supply of medication and all necessary supplies up front, patients stay fully equipped, avoid treatment gaps, and remain psychologically engaged in their journey — leading to better outcomes and long-term success.

Once enrolled, patients receive invitations to weekly virtual educational sessions and monthly in-person events hosted across the country. These events feature healthcare providers, peptide experts, and community leaders sharing valuable insights on longevity and wellness.
