Weight gain in menopause,
explained.
Lower hormone levels and shifts in metabolism can make it harder to lose weight during menopause.
Even with the same habits, many women experience changes in body composition, including reduced muscle mass.
When changes in weight, sleep, energy, and mood all happen at once, it can start to feel like your body is working against you.
HRT removes those biological roadblocks directly, so your body can work with you again.

Hormone Replacement Therapy replenishes the estrogen and progesterone the body stops producing during menopause. These hormones influence sleep, mood, body composition, bone density, cognitive function, cardiovascular health, and much more. When they decline, the effects are felt across nearly every system in the body. HRT is among the most extensively studied interventions in women's medicine, with decades of clinical evidence supporting its use for menopausal symptom management.
HRT may be a good fit for any woman experiencing menopause symptoms that are affecting quality of life, including hot flashes, night sweats, disrupted sleep, mood changes, cognitive difficulties, vaginal discomfort, low libido, joint pain, or changes in body composition. Women who are within 10 years of their last period and under 65 are generally considered strong candidates, though eligibility is always determined by a licensed provider based on your individual health history.
Every EllieMD HRT Program is built around your individual symptom profile and health history, so what you receive depends on what a licensed provider determines is clinically appropriate for you.
Each order is designed to cover an 8-week supply. EllieMD HRT Program is on subscription for uninterrupted care.
Medication eligibility and prescriptions are determined solely by licensed medical providers based on clinical appropriateness. Not all individuals will qualify for treatment. Individual results may vary.
Treatment plans are tailored based on your symptoms, medical history, and provider evaluation. Depending on your clinical profile, treatment may include a personalized combination of capsules and creams formulated to address your individual hormonal needs.
Both deliver bioidentical estradiol and are established methods used in hormone therapy. The cream absorbs through the skin directly into the bloodstream, bypassing first-pass liver metabolism. The capsule is taken orally and processed through the digestive system. Because transdermal delivery bypasses the liver, it may be associated with a more favorable cardiovascular and clotting profile.

If you're unsure where you are in the transition, please consult your primary care provider. If EllieMD HRT Program isn't the right fit for your current stage, we'll let you know during your medical assessment so you can pursue the care that's most appropriate for you.

Labs are not required before beginning HRT. Leading menopause organizations, including ACOG, The Menopause Society, and NICE, support a symptom-based approach to diagnosing menopause. That said, baseline labs can be a meaningful part of your care. Many symptoms commonly associated with menopause can overlap with other conditions, and having a baseline on file can provide useful context down the road. Those who wish to pursue baseline labs are encouraged to do so through their primary care provider.
Bioidentical hormones are structurally identical to the hormones your body naturally produces. Older hormone therapies often used synthetic or non-bioidentical alternatives, which have different molecular structures and distinct safety profiles. EllieMD HRT Program includes bioidentical estradiol and micronized progesterone.
Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. Medication eligibility and prescriptions are determined solely by licensed medical providers based on clinical appropriateness.
Micronized progesterone is structurally identical to the progesterone your body naturally produces and is processed into fine particles to help support effective absorption. Not all progesterone used in hormone therapy is the same — older hormone therapies often used synthetic versions that behave differently in the body and carry a different risk profile. Research suggests micronized progesterone may be better tolerated than synthetic alternatives for many women. EllieMD HRT Program includes micronized progesterone exclusively.
Yes. Even though your prescription is reviewed by a licensed provider, you should inform your primary care physician that you are using HRT. Your primary care provider has a comprehensive understanding of your medical history and can help ensure coordinated, safe
care.
